In addn. to these 3 picrosides, a mixt. of cinnamoyl-.alpha.- [64461-97-8] and 6-cinnamoyl-.beta.-D-glucopyranose [64461-84-3] was isolated which presumably was formed by cleavage of I during work-up.

For eleutheroside E, results detd. by the title method and HPLC were similar; however the title method gave a relative std. duration which was 2-fold higher and a sensitivity which was 10-folder lower than HPLC. The title method was convenient, accurate, precise, and gave good recoveries.
