DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 25 (Benzene, Its Derivatives, and Condensed Benzenoid Compounds) Section cross-reference(s): 5 A method for the synthesis of 3-amino-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid is described. 2745-49-5 and 50-79-3 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. Initially, 1,4-dichlorobenzene was reacted with CH2O and HCl to form 1,4-dichloro-2-(chloromethyl)benzene. A subsequent oxidn. step produced 2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid. Nitration of 2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid produced 3-nitro-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid. Finally, redn. with HCl at 90-100° produced the herbicide. .
