Thus, tablets contg. quinidine polygalacturonate (I) [27555-34-6] 56.8, quinidine [56-54-2] 22.9, hydroxyethyl cellulose [9004-62-0] 6.4, stearyl alc. [112-92-5] 12.8, and lubricants 1.1%, released 100% of its active quinidine content over 20 h, as compared to 12 h for a tablet compn. contg. 77% I and no quinidine. Tablets contg. propranolol-HCl [318-98-9] and propranolol [525-66-6]; aminophylline [317-34-0] and theophylline [58-55-9]; and codeine phosphate [52-28-8] and codeine [76-57-3] behaved similarly.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) After chronic administration of tablets of quinidine monosulfate (I monosulfate) [50-54-4] and I polygalacturonate [27555-34-6], serum I level-vs.-time curves showed peaks and troughs, whereas those produced after the administration of 2 sustained-release formulations of I bisulfate [747-45-5] were smooth. The time needed for the sustained-release products to produce the peak serum I levels was twice that for the 1st 2 products; the sustained release formulations and I polygalacturonate showed a lower degree of bioavailability than the tablets of I monosulfate. The sustained-release formulations of I provided a means, with twice-daily dosage, to maintain a const. serum level of I without producing toxic levels.
