- Acetolysis of glucomannan M2, isolated from the tubers of Arum maculatum L. Koleva, M. (Farm. Fak., Sofia, Bulg. 28072-82-4 and 14417-51-7 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article.). Probl. Farm., 11, 58-63 (Bulgarian) 1983. CODEN: PBFMAV. ISSN: 0323-9659. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) The glucomannan (GCM) M2 isolated from the tubers of the title plant, having £2 D-glucopyranose and £4 D-mannopyranose residues, traces of D-glucuronic acid, etc., was subjected to indirect acetolysis after preliminary acetylation, and the acetolysis products were sepd. by fractionation on a C-Celite (1:1) column. Elution with aq. EtOH at a linear gradient (0-15%) yielded 5 di- and 5 trisaccharides. The 5 disaccharides were identified as 4-O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-D-mannopyranose, 4-O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-D-glucopyranose, 4-O-b-D-glucopyranosyl-D-mannopyranose, 4-O-b-D-glucopyranosyl-D-glucopyranose, and 3-O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-D-mannopyranose. The structures of the 5 trisaccharides are also detailed. Isolation of 2 oligosaccharides: O-b-D-(1 ? 3)-mannobiose and O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-(1 ? 4)-O-b-D-mannopyranosyl-(1 ? 3)-D-mannopyranose, which were not found in hydrolyzates from partial acid and enzymic hydrolyses, indicates that the lateral chain of the title GCM is branched at C-3, yielding some D-mannopyranose residues, preceded by 31 D-mannopyranose residue. .
