DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 38 (Elastomers, Including Natural Rubber) The adhesion of brass-plated steel tire cords to rubbers is improved by addn. of Co naphthenate (I), and a resin-forming system based on 2-methylol-2-nitropropane (II) [76-39-1] and AcH-resorcinol resin (III) [28410-56-2] to the rubber stock. Thus, the master batch, contg. natural rubber, cis-polybutadiene rubber, naphthenic petroleum hydrocarbon oil-extended SBR, carbon black, ZnO, stearic acid, naphthenic petroleum hydrocarbon process oil, antioxidant, N-tert-butyl-2-benzothiazolylsulfenamide, diphenylguanidine, and S was mixed (100 parts) with Co (as I prepn.) 0.07, II 1.5, and III 1.0 part, was cured with brass-plated steel tire cord 8 min at 350°F in a mold to give a sample that exhibited adhesion pull 53 lbs. (250°, force necessary to sep. the wire from the rubber) compared with 33 lbs. for a similar sample not contg. I.
