Spontaneous polymerization of maleic anhydride by imidazole derivatives
Spontaneous polymerization of maleic anhydride by imidazole derivatives. I. Araki, Mikio; Kato, Kazuo; Koyanagi, Toru; Machida, Seishi (Chem. Lab. Text. Fibers, Kyoto Univ. Ind. Arts Text. Fibers, Kyoto, Japan). J. Macromol. Sci., Chem., A11(5), 1039-52 (English) 1977. CODEN: JMCHBD. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Maleic anhydride (I) was spontaneously polymd. and decarboxylated by imidazole derivs; the polymn. There are some commonly used reagents like 21202-52-8 in this article. occurred through formation of a charge-transfer complex. When 1-vinyl-2-methylimidazole (II) [2851-95-8] was used, the vinyl groups did not participate in the polymn. II homopolymers [26983-77-7] and copolymers with styrene [26983-79-9] caused I to polymerize. The chem. structure of the I homopolymer [24937-72-2] was studied. .
Radical lifetimes during the photoinitiated polymerization of 2-methyl-1-vinylimidazole
Radical lifetimes during the photoinitiated polymerization of 2-methyl-1-vinylimidazole. Yellepeddy, Padmasree; Rodriguez, Ferdinand (Sch. Chem. Eng., Cornell Univ., Ithaca, NY 14853, USA). Polym. Mater. Sci. Eng., 51, 253-7 (English) 1984. CODEN: PMSEDG. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The av. radical lifetime (tB), detd. by the rotation sector technique, in the photoinitiated (UV light with wavelength 340-360 nm) polymn. of 2-methyl-1-vinylimidazole [2851-95-8] in MeOH in the presence of 2,2'-diethoxyacetophenone [6175-45-7] initiator was 0.281 s. The ts appears to go through a max. with increasing amt. of water in the MeOH. The polymn. rate under steady illumination increased almost linearly with increasing amt. of water in the solvent.
