The compds. used for this study were 1,5,9-trans,trans,cis-cyclododecatriene (I) [706-31-0], 1,2-trans-5,6-trans-9,10-cis-cyclododecatriene 1,2-oxide [943-93-1], cyclododecanol [1724-39-6], cyclododecene oxide [286-99-7], cyclododecane [294-62-2], 1,5-cyclooctadiene [111-78-4], cyclooctene oxide [286-62-4], cyclohexene [110-83-8], and cyclohexene oxide [286-20-4]. The unsatd. cyclic 12-C compds. elicited the greatest increase in GST activity. Thus, feeding I increased this activity almost 4-fold in the livers and the intestinal mucosa of exptl. animals. Cyclic 8-C compds. were less effective and feeding the cyclic 6-C compds. did not result in any significant increase in GST activity. None of the compds. elicited increased GST activity in the forestomach. Previous studies have shown that compds. inducing increased GST activity can protect against chem. carcinogens.
