I with R = H or Me, R1 = H or Me, R2 = CN, CO2Et, or Ac, and R3 = CN, alkoxycarbonyl, Ac, or Ph were prepd. for use as light stabilizers in plastics such as polystyrene [9003-53-6], PVC [9002-86-2], and urethane rubbers. Thus, 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine [36768-62-4] in EtOH was treated slowly with a soln. of EtOCH:C(CN)CO2Me [29096-99-9] in EtOH to prep. I (R = R1 = H, R2 = CN, R3 = CO2Me) (II) [64845-30-3]. A urethane rubber contg. 2% II had slightly better light stability during accelerated aging, compared with a rubber contg. 2% Tinuvin 770 stabilizer. .Except for chemicals metioned above, 9003-53-6 is also used..
