Thus, distn. of the product of the dehydrogenation of I in the presence of a ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts at 400° gave a mixt. of II 88.6, 2-ethylimidazole [1072-62-4] 1.4, 4-methylimidazole [822-36-6] 2.0, 2-ethyl-4,5-dimethylimidazole [91811-21-1] 2.0, 2,4(5)-diethyl-4(5)-methylimidazole [96701-66-5] 5.0, 2,4-dimethylimidazole [930-62-1] 0.5, and 4-ethyl-2-methylimidazole [29239-89-2] 0.5%. The mixt. remained liq. for >30 days in a refrigerator.
