A 2nd mixt. of 6.5 g of the corresponding copolymer and 65.0 g H2O was prepd. and adjusted to pH 4.0, and 20 g Resimene 714 [9003-08-1] was added, and this mixt. was added with stirring to the above emulsion. The mixt. was heated overnight at 55° to initiate and complete encapsulation with an acceptable emulsion. The emulsion (50 parts) was mixed with 5 parts ethoxylated cornstarch binder and 12.5 parts uncooked wheat starch granules on a dry basis and dild. with H2O to a 20% solids dispersion which was coated on a 50 g/m2 paper base. The paper had typewriter intensity of 53 before oven storage (100° for 16 h) and 54 after oven storage.

Into 200 g of the soln. was emulsified 180 g of a chromogenic compd. soln. contg. 3,3-bis(p-dimethylaminophenyl)-6-dimethylaminophthalide [1552-42-7] 1.7, 2'-anilino-3'-methyl-6'-diethylaminofluoran [29512-49-0] 0.55, and 3,3-bis(1-ethyl-2-methylindol-3-yl)phthalide [22091-92-5] 0.55% in a solvent mixt. of 65 parts C10-13 alkylbenzene and 35 parts benzylated xylenes to give a drop size range of £15M. To the remaining portion of the I-II soln. was added 25 g partially methylated methylolmelamine resin, i.e. Resimene 714 [9003-08-1], and this mixt. was added to the above emulsion. The mixt. was heated 2 h at 65° to complete encapsulation.
