DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) On treatment with 8-methoxypsoralen (I) [298-81-7] plus near-UV light, an excisionless (uvrB-) strain of E. coli showed ~3 and 10 times higher sensitivities to killing and mutation, resp., than its parental strain. On reirradn. with near-UV in the absence of unbound I the pretreated uvrB- strain showed a decrease in survival and mutation. After treatment with I plus near UV, reirradn. of T7 DNA in the absence of unbound I increased the crosslinked fraction and decreased the noncrosslinked fraction proportionally. Monoadducts produced by I plus UV treatment may be converted to crosslinks by further irradn. In E. coli, monoadducts may be responsible for the mutation induced by I plus UV whereas crosslinks were the major cause of its lethal action.

Dry roots of H. pinnatum had 3-4% total coumarins.
