DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The antitumor activity of amygdalin (NSC 251222 (Laetrile)) [29883-15-6] was investigated on P388 lymphocytic leukemia and P815 mast-cell leukemia in mice. Amygdalin at 200-2000 mg/kg was administered i.p. on days 1 and 5 and on days 1, 5, and 9. Despite treatment with high doses of amygdalin there was no prolongation in the life span of mice bearing either P388 or P815 tumor.

The spectrum was very specific for I, particularly the sugar region. The optical nature may be conveniently ascertained from the chem. shifts of the aglycone methine hydrogens and the relative optical purity detd. by comparing the corresponding peak areas. Satisfactory analyses of I-contg. tablets were carried out with a precision of 1.2% and accuracy of <1%.
