DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Section cross-reference(s): 67 Heat-curable organopolysiloxane one package compns. with good shelf life, even in the absence of inhibitor, comprise an olefinically unsatd. organopolysiloxane RaR1bSiO[4-(a+b)]/2 [R = (un)substituted C1-14 hydrocarbon residue; R1 = C1-10 alkenyl; a = 0-3 integer; b = 0.005-2.Several reagents with their cas registry numbers 30053-58-8 and 108146-50-5 are used here.0; such that a + b = 0.8-3], an organohydrogen polysiloxane RaHbSiO[4-(a+b)]/2 (values above), and a Pt catalyst I [R2 = C6-14 (un)substituted arylene; R3, R4 = (un)substituted hydrocarbon radical; X = halogen]. A soln. of 0.47 g Na2PtCl4 and 0.716 g (PhO)3P in 15 mL EtOH was gently heated for 2 min, then cooled to -20° for 120 min forming ClPt[P(OPh)3]2, 0.306 g of which was dissolved in 6 mL decalin, and the soln. reflux under N for 17 h forming I (R3 = R4 = Ph, X = Cl, Z = 1,2-C6H4) (II) in 64% yield. A heat-curable Pt-catalyzed organopolysiloxane compn. was prepd. consisting of 100 parts of a vinyl-contg. base formulation (75% of a poly(dimethylsiloxane) having 80,000 cP viscosity and terminal vinyl dimethysiloxy units and 25% of a resin having molar proportions dimethylsiloxy 0.7, tetrasiloxy 1, methylvinylsiloxy 1.7 mols), 10 parts of silicon hydride cross-linker [50% polydimethylsiloxane with viscosity 4000 cP (25°) and terminal dimethylvinylsiloxy units and 50% of siloxane resin consisting of di-Me hydrogen siloxy units chem. combined with tetrasiloxy units], and 10 ppm II. The compn. was cured by heating to 200° for 7 min and had tensile strength 700 psi, elongation 300%, Shore A hardness 43, and tear strength 50 psi, vs. 600, 300, 45, and 50, resp., for Pt catalyst cured for 1 h at 100°. .
