DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 34 (Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins) The invention provides a method for prepg. amino acid monoesters by selective hydrolysis of amino acid diesters in the presence of a non-enzyme additive. The hydrolysis was carried out at pH ~ 4.9, temp. ~ 50°C, and vapor pressure ~ 4-25 psi. Thus, a reaction mixt. contg. 670 mM of L-glutamic acid di-tert-Bu ester HCl and 2 mol equiv. sodium acetate (pH 4.9) was stirred for 25 h, after which the g-monoester was the predominant product (63.08 mg/mL vs. 1.97 mg/mL the g-monoester), which indicates that the hydrolysis was selective for the a-ester group. .
