Substituent-dependent self-assembly: two-dimensional aggregate formation in cyanine dye-adsorbed Langmuir-Blodgett films. Saito, Kazuhiro; Ikegami, Keiichi; Kuroda, Shinichi; Tabe, Yuka; Sugi, Michio (Electrotech. Lab., Tsukuba 305, Japan). J. Appl. Phys., 71(3), 1401-7 (English) 1992. CODEN: JAPIAU. ISSN: 0021-8979. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 73 (Optical, Electron, and Mass Spectroscopy and Other Related Properties) Section cross-reference(s): 66, 76 Interface-adsorbed complex Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of arachidic acid and water-sol., meso-substituted cyanine dyes were fabricated using the diffusion-adsorption method to examine the substituent-dependent self-assembly at the water-monolayer interface. Either a J aggregate or an H aggregate was formed in the LB films depending on the substitutent introduced, the Et or Me group. The H aggregate is accompanied by Davydov splitting, which is characterized as the split of the band into 2 bands, whose transition moments are orthogonal to each other. Measurements of photoluminescence and microscopic spectroscopy were performed to identify the type of the aggregates. The mol. arrangements in the aggregates were estd. 3065-79-0 and 506-30-9 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. based on Davydov's theory and the extended dipole model. Dependence of photoelec. properties of the LB films on the type of aggregates was studied using Schottky-type cells. .
