- Patch testing with brominated epoxy resins. Fregert, S.; Trulsson, L. (Dep. Occup. Dermatol., Univ. Hosp., Lund S-221 85, Swed.). Contact Dermatitis, 10(2), 112-13 (English) 1984. CODEN: CODEDG. ISSN: 0105-1873. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 37 Patch testing of 9 subjects, sensitive to bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (I) [91649-56-8], gave neg. reactions when tested with tetrabromobisphenol A diglycidyl ether (II) [3072-84-2] (a brominated epoxy resin usually mixed with I). The patch test concn. of II was 1.4% equimolar to 1% I. In addn., no animal was sensitized to II in 2 series of animal tests. Thus, the hypersensitivity to I should be considered when patch testing brominated epoxy resins.

- Flame retardant thermoplastic nylon resins. Bar-Yaakov, Yoav; Minke, Ram (Makhteshim Chemical Works Ltd., Israel). Eur. Pat. Appl. EP 100582 A1 15 Feb 1984, 13 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: R: BE, CH, DE, FR, GB, IT, LI, SE. (English). (European Patent Organization). CODEN: EPXXDW. CLASS: IC: C08L077-00; C08L063-02. APPLICATION: EP 83-302578 6 May 1983. PRIORITY: IL 82-65726 10 May 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Flame-retardant thermoplastic nylon compns. are prepd. by incorporating into the nylon a halogenated, esp. brominated, bisphenol A epoxy resin (mol. wt. >8000) contg. 320% halogen and (optionally) Sb2O3. Thus, 85 parts nylon 66 (I) [32131-17-2] beads were dried in vacuum 3 h at 120° and compounded with 12 parts high-mol.-wt. tetrabromobisphenol A diglycidyl ether (II) [3072-84-2] and 4 parts Sb2O3. The pellets were injection-molded into 3.2 mm thick specimens which were conditioned 48 h at 50% relative humidity before phys. testing. The specimens had tensile strength 690 kg/cm2, tensile modulus 1150 kg/cm2, elongation 11%, Izod impact (notch) 0.8 ft lb/in, and oxygen index 29.4, as compared to 590, 1060, 10, 1.0, and 21.7, resp., for I contg. no II or Sb2O3.Except for chemicals metioned above, 1309-64-4 and 25587-80-8 are also used. .
