Incorporation of amine antioxidants into natural rubber network via epoxide groups
Incorporation of amine antioxidants into natural rubber network via epoxide groups. Lye, Poh Huat; Toh, Huan Kiak (Sch. Appl. Sci., Univ. Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malay.). J. Polym. Sci., Polym. Lett. Ed., 22(6), 327-34 (English) 1984. CODEN: JPYBAN. ISSN: 0360-6384. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 39 (Synthetic Elastomers and Natural Rubber) Amine antioxidants, e.g., N-isopropyl-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (I) [3085-82-3] and m-nitroaniline (II) [99-09-2] were bound to epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) (degree of epoxidn. 0-1.2%) by mixing with a stabilized amine soln. at 27° and setting the soln. aside overnight. The estd. amt. of the antioxidant retained in the rubber after extn. with Me2CO increased with increasing level of epoxidn., suggesting that the amines were bound to ENR via epoxide groups. The content of II incorporated into ENR surpassed that of I at the same level of epoxidn., presumably due to lower steric hindrance. A reaction mechanism of ENR with I and II was proposed.
Adhesives for neoprene rubbers and reinforcing fibers
Adhesives for neoprene rubbers and reinforcing fibers. (Denki Kagaku Kogyo K. K., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59124969 A2 19 Jul 1984 Showa, 4 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C09J003-12. ICA: B29H009-02; C08L009-00. APPLICATION: JP 82-233292 29 Dec 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 39 (Synthetic Elastomers and Natural Rubber) The latex adhesives comprise 2-chlorobutadiene (I) homopolymer [9010-98-4] or copolymer with comonomers and/or S, formaldehyde-resorcinol copolymer (II) [24969-11-7], and 0.5-10 parts (based 100 parts I polymer) amine or ketone compd. Thus, a nylon 6 woven fabric was impregnated for 5 s with a compn. from 6.9% II dispersion 277.3, 50% 2-chlorobutadiene-2,3-dichlorobutadiene copolymer [25067-95-2] latex 200, 50% N-isopropyl(-N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine [3085-82-3] dispersion 10, and water 107.3 parts, dried at 120° for 2 min, baked at 150° for 6 min, and heat-set at 200° for 3 min. A neoprene rubber vulcanized with the treated fabric had adhesive strength 19.0 kg/in. and rubber failure in pull test 90-100%.
