The polymn. was of a nonradical nature and had overall activation energy 33.3 kcal/mol. I was an effective heat stabilizer for PVC [9002-86-2], increasing the onset of thermal degrdn. by 14° at 1% I. Wt. loss at 473, 523, 623, and 773 K was 0, 10.5, 45, and 53%, resp., for PVC contg. 1% I, compared with 2, 15, 61, and 77%, resp., for unstabilized PVC.
