Increase of 2,3-epoxybutane mutagenicity by glutathione-S-transferases
Increase of 2,3-epoxybutane mutagenicity by glutathione-S-transferases. De Meester, C. (Sch. Pharm., Cathol. Univ. Louvain, Brussels, Belg.). Toxicol. Lett., 21(3), 255-62 (English) 1984. CODEN: TOLED5. ISSN: 0378-4274. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) The mutagenicity of 2,3-epoxybutane (I) [3266-23-7] towards Salmonella typhimurium TA1530 is increased by a rat liver S9 mix. This enhancement can be induced by Aroclor 1254 or phenobarbitone pretreatment. Comparative assays with purified subcellular liver fractions demonstrated that cytosol is most active in increasing the mutagenic effect of I. Addn. of reduced glutathione [70-18-8] to metabolic activating mixts. contg. S9 or cytosol strengthened this effect. Apparently, I is stabilized through enzymic conjugation with glutathione.
