Neurotoxicity of apamin and MCD peptide upon central application
Neurotoxicity of apamin and MCD peptide upon central application. Habermann, E. (Pharmakol. Inst., Justus Liebig-Univ., Giessen, Ger.). Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Arch. Pharmacol., 300(2), 189-91 (English) 1977. CODEN: NSAPCC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Whereas the i.v. LD50 of apamin [24345-16-2] in mice was ~4 mg/kg, the MCD peptide [32908-73-9] was not lethal when given i.v. at up to 20 mg/kg. When administered intraventricularly, the MCD peptide was lethal at 330 mg. The previously detd. intraventricular LD50 of apamin in mice was 40 ng. The central effects of MCD peptide differed from those of apamin by their clin. picture and faster time course.
Characteristics of the histamine-releasing action of MCD-peptide from bee venom
Characteristics of the histamine-releasing action of MCD-peptide from bee venom. Gushchin, I. S.; Miroshnikov, A. I.; Martynov, V. I. (Res. Allergol. Lab., Moscow, USSR). Byull. Eksp. Biol. Med., 84(7), 78-80 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: BEBMAE. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 15 Max. releasee of histamine [51-45-6] from rat mast cells (.apprx.70% as compared to spontaneous 1.8% release) was obsd. at the same concns. (0.5 .mu.g/mL) of MCD peptide [32908-73-9] and compd. 48/80, while approx. same amts. of histamine were released by mellitin [37231-28-0] at concns. 40-fold higher than those of MCD peptide. At 38.degree., the latent period of MCD peptide action was 10 sec and max. activity was reached after 15 sec. The peptide was inactive at 2.degree. and its activity increased by increasing the temp. from 18 to 38.degree.. The temp.-depepndence was similar to that previously obsd. with compd. 48/80. The action of the peptide was also shown to be an energy-dependent process, independent of cyclic AMP.
