Na2CO3, NaHCO3, a zeolite, and Na silicate is prevented by the addn. of citric acid (I) [77-92-9] (or a water-sol. salt) and MgSO4 or Mg citrate [3344-18-1]. The slurries are spray dried to prep. free-flowing detergent powders which absorb liq. nonionic detergents without becoming tacky. Thus, a crutcher slurry was prepd. by mixing water (27°) with MgSO4 216, I, 50, zeolite 4A 2528, Na2CO3 1634, soda ash 821, and 47.5% aq. Na silicate (1:2.4 Na2O-SiO2) 1628 parts. The slurry was mixed 1 h with the loss of ~500 parts water. The slurry did not gel or cake and was spray dried to prep. a powd. detergent having bulk d. ~0.7 g/cm3, particle size 10-100 mesh, and fines content ~15%.
