Electron microscopic investigations on the cytology of Ustilago avenae as influenced by the systemic fungicides triadimefon, nuarimol, and imazalil nitrate. A thin-section and freeze-fracture study. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Investigations were undertaken on fungicide-treated and untreated sporidia of U. avenae by thin-section and freeze-fracture techniques to show their intracellular structure. The fungicides triadimefon (I) [43121-43-3], nuarimol [63284-71-9], and imazalil-nitrate [33586-66-2] were applied at 5 mg/mL for 8 and 16 h. Their fungicidal actions were expressed at the morphol. level in form of inhibition of the budding process of the sporidia resulting in filamentous promycelium and at the ultrastructural level in the form of enlarged diams. of the cells, considerable thickening of peripheral cell walls and septa, and higher contrast together with progressing necrosis. Furthermore, an increased no. of mitochondria was found in the fungicide-treated organism. As compared to the untreated controls, their organelles were enlarged and irregular in shape. Higher amts. of endoplasmic reticulum and new arrangements of the membranes to myelin-like structures were obsd. as well as an extensive vacuolization and accumulation of lipid bodies. 43121-43-3 and 83833-36-7 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. The vacuoles were filled up with membrane-like aggregates and vesicles, which could be extruded by exocytosis. Specific structures on the plasmalemma of plasmatic and extraplasmatic fracture faces point to exocytosis. Moreover, hemispherical pits and protrusions, aggregation of intramembrane particles, and disappearance of the straight, fissure-like invaginations were obsd. An extended incubation period (16 h) with I and nuarimol resulted in the complete destruction of the cellular system of most sporidia. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Of 3 fungicide compared with benomyl for control of 8 damping-off fungi in vitro, BAS 3191 F [28562-70-1] and Imazilil R 18531 [33586-66-2] were the most effective for control of Phytophthora parasitica; BAS 3191 was the most effective for control of Rhizoctonia solani; Bayer 6233a [62153-05-3] was the most effective for control of Botrytis cinerea; none of the compmds. was effective against Pythium species; and the remaining species were controlled by benomyl as well or better than by the 3 test compmds. Of 7 fungicides compared with benomyl for control of R. solani and Pythium species on bean and tomato, BAS 3270 F [34849-42-8] and BAS 3191 were the most effective for control of R. solani, whereas Dexon [140-56-7] was the most effective for control of Pythium species. .
