A new class of low-molecular-weight amphiphilic gelators
Mohmeyer, Nils; Schmidt, Hans-Werner (Macromolecular Chemistry I, Bayreuther Institut fuer Makromolekuelforschung (BIMF) and, Bayreuther Zentrum fuer Grenzflaechen und Kolloide (BZKG), University Bayreuth, Bayreuth 95440, Germany). Chemistry--A European Journal, 11(3), 863-872 (English) 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA. CODEN: CEUJED. ISSN: 0947-6539. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 66 (Surface Chemistry and Colloids) A new powerful class of low-mol.-wt. amphiphilic compds. was synthesized and their structure-property relations with respect to their gelation ability of org. solvents were studied.Several substances like 3393-96-2 may be metioned in this study. These compds. are able to gel org. solvents over a broad range of polarity. Esp. polar solvents such as valeronitrile and g-butyrolactone can be gelled even at concns. far <1%. The gelation ability of these asym. substituted p-phenylendiamines depends on a well-balanced relation of the terminal head group, the units involved in hydrogen bonding (amide or urea groups), and on the length of the alkyl chain. With this class of new gelators it is possible to tailor thermal and mech. properties in different org. solvents and open various application possibilities. .
