I was prepd. by 2 methods (a) II was treated with Ph3P and the resultant compd. was brominated and hydrolyzed to give I (60% yield), and (b) bromination of dichloroacetaldehyde di-Et acetal [619-33-0] at 100° (20-30% yield). ..
