DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Meso-tetra(p-sulfophenyl)porphine (I) [35218-75-8] accumulated in the tumors of mice bearing a murine sarcoma virus-induced rhabdomyosarcoma to a greater degree than in all other tissues except for the kidney. Tumor to tissue ratios of from 3:1 (tumor to liver) to 9:1 (tumor to muscle) were obsd. The uptake of I was dose dependent, and the highest tumor to tissue ratios were found 96 h after injection. The water-sol. I appears to be cleared through the kidneys, and abs. concns. there were reduced with incresing time after injection. These data are compared with previous studies on I localization in Walker 256 carcino-sarcoma-bearing mice. In view of this localizing ability and its relative lack of toxicity, I seems to represent an ideal candidate for a tumor-localizing agent if high levels of the porphyrin in the kidneys can be reversed.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 8 (Radiation Biochemistry) Using a microcalorimetric method, the effects of photosensitizers YHPD, TSPP, and TAMP on T. pyriformis metabolic activity have been detd. 35218-75-8 and 97162-72-6 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. The exptl. results indicate that the porphyrin compds. TSPP and TAMP strongly affect T. pyriformis metab., but inhibition due to YHPD is slight. The photosensitization effects follow the sequence TAMP > TSPP > YHPD. These results are consistent with the results of SEM and TEM methods, and show that photosensitizers in T. pyriformis cells lead to similar cellular structural damage in the same sequence. .
