ICA: C09B033-06. APPLICATION: CS 80-894 11 Feb 1980. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 41 (Dyes, Organic Pigments, Fluorescent Brighteners, and Photographic Sensitizers) I (R = H) [3905-19-9] or I (R = Cl) [40618-31-3] is prepd. by condensation of 1,4-phenylenediamine [106-50-3] or 2,5-dichloro-1,4-phenylenediamine [20103-09-7] with 2,5-Cl2C6H3N:NC10H5(OH)COCl-1,2,3 [42481-25-4] in an arom. solvent and isolated from the reaction mixt., after addn. of 10-110% piperidine [110-89-4] or N-(3-aminopropyl)piperidine [3529-08-6] (on wt. of pigment) and heating to 40-110°, by filtration and washing with cold EtOH and H2O. The piperidines increase the soly. and facilitate removal of by-products which have an unfavorable effect on the application properties of the pigment. Washing with large amts. of hot solvents and their regeneration is also avoided.
