DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Two insect molt inhibitors, TH6038 (I) [35409-97-3] and difluron (II) [35367-38-5], were tested for topical and feeding toxicity to the western spruce budworm (Choristoneura occidentalis) and the Douglas-fir tussock moth (Orgyia Pseudotsugata). Both compds. showed little topical activity, but both were quite toxic when fed to insects in artificial diet. II was most active when fed to early instars of both species. II sprayed on Douglas-fir seedlings showed substantial residual activity for 6 wk.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Of 65 insect growth regulators, screened in the lab. against 4th instar Anopheles quadrimaculatus larvae, the most effective, in decreasing order of effectiveness, were: TH-6040 [35367-38-5], TH-6038 [35409-97-3], Ortho-17565 (S-benzyl 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxythiobenzoate) [54518-49-9], ZR-515 [40596-69-8], Ortho-18286 (S-tert-Bu 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxythiobenzoate) [52119-58-1]. Fifteen more compds. were effective. No difference was shown in the toxicity of either TH-6040 or ZR-515 to DDT-resistant and DDT-susceptible strains of A. quadrimaculatus and Aedes taeniorhynchus. On small-plot field expts., TH-6040, TH-6038, Ortho-17565, and ZR-515 completely suppressed at 0.025 lb/acre the eclosion of A. quadrimaculatus. In large plot expts., aerial application of TH-6040 and Altosid SR-10 (ZR-515) also controlled A. quadrimaculatus. .
