On the 2nd day they were injected i.m. with estradiol [50-28-2] (6 mg as valerate) and after 48 h were given 2000 IU PMSG [9002-70-4] with FSH:LH ratios of 2.8:1 or 1.7:1. Some animals also received 500 IU chorionic gonadotropin [9002-61-3] 96 h after PMSG. Within 7 days after completion of hormone treatment 95% of the animals were in estrus. Hormone treatment allowed animals to become pregnant 60-70 days earlier than in control animals. The pregnancy rate after the 2nd ovarian cycle was 20% higher than in controls.
