Dielec. enrichment (specific solvation of polar solutes by polar solvents) was extended from the liq. to the solid state by assuming that that the solvent shell which stabilizes the solute's ground state is "frozen" in the polymer and cannot be changed during the lifetime of the excited states. The implications of this mechanism for energy and ordering of electronic states of polar mols. (i.e., I and 4-nitroaniline [100-01-6]) in fluid (i.e., di-iso-Pr ether [108-20-3]-DMF and Me methacrylate [80-62-6]-hydroxypropyl methacrylate [27813-02-1]) and solid (i.e., PMMA-II) media were discussed.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Physical Properties of Synthetic High Polymers) Solvation dynamics of 4-aminophthalimide (4-AP) in a polymer-surfactant aggregate comprising poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is reported. In an aq. soln. even at a polymer concn. much higher than the cross over value (C*), a significant portion (30%) of 4-AP mols. do not bind to PVP. In the presence of a surfactant, SDS, 4-AP binds to the PVP-SDS aggregate completely at a polymer concn. greater than C*. The crit. aggregation concn. (c.a.c.There are some commonly used reagents with their cas registry numbers 3676-85-5 and 151-21-3 in this article.) of SDS for PVP is found to be 2 mM. The solvation dynamics of 4-AP in a PVP-SDS aggregate is obsd. to be slower compared to that in bulk water or in SDS micelles. The slow solvation dynamics is attributed to restrictions imposed on the water mols. squeezed between the polymer chain and micellar aggregates. .
