EtOH medium is investigated. The dissocn. consts. of Thorin in the ethanolic medium are detd. spectrophotometrically and the distribution of the protonated species is used to explain the behavior of the apparent complexation const. On the basis of the apparent consts. found and mass-balances, the effect of SO42- on the absorbance is calcd., and the best conditions for detn. of SO42- are established. Cation and anion interferences are studied and means of overcoming them are proposed. The method developed is applied to SO42- detn. in atm. particulates. As little as 1 mg of SO42- can be measured.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) A simple method is presented for the detn. of Li+ in blood serum.Some commonly used reagents like 3688-92-4 and 7439-93-2 are used in this experiment. Ethylene glycol bis(b-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetate (I) [923-73-9] (a chelating agent), thorin [3688-92-4], and COMe2 are added to protein-free blood serum, and the concn. of Li+ is measured spectrophotometrically using a std. Li+ concn. curve. Thus, 10 mL human blood serum was treated with 10% TCA (10 mL) to produce a protein ppt. and the mixt. centrifuged at 8000 rpm for 20 min. The supernatant was treated with 0.8 mL 5 mmol I, 0.8 mL 0.05% aq. thorin soln., and 1.6 mL COMe2, and its absorption at 482 nm measured 1 h later. The ref. std. soln. was prepd. by adding 0.1 mL 0-20 m equiv/L LiCl to 0.9 mL control human serum and the other solns. as described above to establish the std. curve relating the Li+ concn. and the absorption. .
