Enhanced response to chemoimmunotherapy and immunoprophylaxis with the use of tumor-associated antigens with a lipophilic agent
Enhanced response to chemoimmunotherapy and immunoprophylaxis with the use of tumor-associated antigens with a lipophilic agent. Prager, Morton D.; Gordon, William C. (Dep. Surg., Univ. Texas Health Sci. Cent., Dallas, Tex., USA). Cancer Res., 38(7), 2052-7 (English) 1978. CODEN: CNREA8. ISSN: 0008-5472. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 15 Treating iodoacetamide (IAD) [144-48-9] modified lymphoma cells with the lipophilic agent dimethyldioctadecylamonium bromide (DDA) [3700-67-2] increased their immunogenicity as evidenced by the increased capacity of syngeneic, vaccinated hosts to reject subsequent implants of the same lymphoma. Under conditions of suboptimal immunization to facilitate comparison, there were 61% survivors among mice challenged with tumor implants after immunization with modified cells and DDA compared to 20% survivors among those immunized in the absence of DDA. The enhanced immune response was dependent on DDA dosage and was most striking when DDA was directly complexed to the IAD-treated cells. DDA was also effective with solubilized tumor antigen and with lymphoma cells not pretreated with IAD, but the latter had to be heat killed to assure that they were nontumorigenic. In therapy expts. BALB/c mice bearing P1798 were treated with methotrexate [59-05-2] followed by immunotherapy with IAD-P1798 alone or complexed to DDA. With 2 and 3 cycles of therapy, methotrexate alone yielded 5 and 13% survivors, while adding immunotherapy with the DDA complex gave survival rates of 63 and 71%. In the absence of DDA, chemoimmunotherapy with methotrexate and IAD-P1798 gave intermediate results. In the absence of antigen, DDA was ineffective in either immunoprophylaxis or therapy expts.
Colloid-catalyst-coated semiconductors in surfactant vesicles
Colloid-catalyst-coated semiconductors in surfactant vesicles. In situ generation of rhodium-coated cadmium sulfide particles in dimethyldioctadecylammonium halide surfactant vesicles and their utilization in photosensitized charge separation and hydrogen generation. Rafaeloff, Rafael; Tricot, Yves M.; Nome, Faruk; Fendler, Janos H. (Inst. Colloid Surf. Sci., Clarkson Univ., Potsdam, NY 13676, USA). J. Phys. Chem., 89(3), 533-7 (English) 1985. CODEN: JPCHAX. ISSN: 0022-3654. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 52 (Electrochemical, Radiational, and Thermal Energy Technology) Section cross-reference(s): 49, 73, 74 Colloidal ~40-?-diam. CdS semiconductors were in situ generated and in situ coated by Rh in 800-1000-?-diam. dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride (I) [107-64-2] and dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (II) [3700-67-2] surfactant vesicles. Vesicles controlled the sizes and stabilities of CdS, generated by H2S from adsorbed Cd/EDTA. Fluorescence emission of I or II vesicle incorporating CdS was visible only when the dispersion was sonicated at pH >6. This fluorescence was unaffected by addnl. EDTA [60-00-4] but efficiently quenched by PhSH [108-98-5]. Direct evidence of conduction band electron transfer from excited CdS to methylviologen [1910-42-5] was obsd. by laser flash photolysis. Photolysis by visible light of I and II vesicle-entrapped Rh-coated CdS particles in the presence of PhSH (the sacrificial electron donor) led to H formation which could be sustained until nearly complete consumption of PhSH. H evolution was equal or more efficient from externally formed CdS particles, eventhough they did not show a detectable fluorescence. H generation was optimized by examg. effects of catalyst concn., mode of catalyst formation, the concn. of added PhSH, and the methods of CdS and vesicle prepn.
