The use of the dicarboxylates as surfactants is studied in the manuf. of cement slurries. The optimum amt. of dicarboxylate is 0.15 wt.%; the addn. of it increases the grindability of the raw materials and decreases the amt. of water consumed in slurry prepn.

Cotton fabrics padded with a 35% total solid soln. contg. a 1:1 molar ratio of I to II and 4% alkali salt dried at 85.degree., and cured 1-2 min at 160.degree., passed the FF 3-71 flame test after 50 laundering cycles. The samples without softeners retained 90-105% of their breaking strength and 55-65% of their tearing strength.
