- Orthopedic bandages comprising moisture hardenable polyurethane resins. Wegner, Christian; Schneider, Gottfried; Mayer, Wolfram (Bayer A.-G. , Fed. Rep. Ger.). Eur. Pat. Appl. EP 90289 A1 5 Oct 1983, 15 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: R: AT, BE, CH, DE, FR, GB, IT, LI, LU, NL, SE. (German). (European Patent Organization). CODEN: EPXXDW. CLASS: IC: A61L015-07. APPLICATION: EP 83-102685 18 Mar 1983. PRIORITY: DE 82-3211634 30 Mar 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Light-wt. comfortable bandages consist of a raschel knit fabric of cotton and/or polyester coated and/or impregnated with a polymer contg. isocyanate groups. The knit has a ratio of the mean sepn. of warp fibers to the mean sepn. of filling fibers of <1.5, a diagonal stretchability preferably >200%, and a wt. of 50-100 g/m2. The fabric fits better around elbows and heels than conventional material. A cotton raschel knit (60 g/m2, 5.8 warp and 4 filling fibers/cm, distance between warp and filling fibers of 1.8 and 2.4 mm, and diagonal stretchability 250%) bandage 10 cm wide and 3 m long was impregnated with a mixt. of 100 parts polymethylenepolyphenylene isocyanate [9016-87-9] and 32 parts polypropylene glycol triethanolamine ether [37208-53-0] at a resin/fabric wt. ratio of 1.5:1. The bandage was dipped in 25° H2O for 10 s for casting. The bandage had a flexing strength greater than that of those prepd. similarly with conventional fabrics.
