DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 16 (Fermentations) Validamycin A [37248-47-8] was produced by Streptomyces prasinus LD-473 (FERM-P 3352). Thus, S. prasinus was aerobically cultured at 28.degree. for 4 days on a medium (pH 7.0) contg. glucose 2.0, soybean powder 2.0, corn steep liquor 0.5, methionine 0.1, and NaCl 1.0%. The culture filtrate (4 L) was passed through a column of IRA-410 (OH-) at pH 2, and then through a column of Dowex-50W .times. 2 (H+) to adsorb the active substance, which was eluted with 0.5 N NH4OH. The active substance was adsorbed on Dowex 1 .times. 2 (OH-), eluted with water, and pptd. by addn. of Me2CO to yield validamycin A as a white powder.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Fungicides used to control rice sheath blight Thanatephorus cucumeris (imperfect stage, Rhizoctonia solani) were screened in pot expts. At the booting stage, the fungicides were sprayed before and after artificial inoculation. Neo Asozin [35745-11-0] powder (0.4%), 8% Mon San [6423-72-9], and 6.5% Neo Asozin emulsion, gave the best control, followed by 16.5% Mon [24731-85-9] 3% Validacin [37248-47-8], 50% benlate [17804-35-2], and 3% Polyoxin [11113-80-7]. Tachigaren [10004-44-1] had no apparent effect. Disease incidence was affected by the time of fungicidal application. Application at 2 days after inoculation gave the best control. Sclerotia of R. solani on rice plants remained alive after application of all fungicides in the field. Viability of the sclerotia decreased proportionally when dipped in the fungicides with increasing time, with best results for dipping at 24 h. Benlate killed all sclerotia, whereas 5-25% remained alive when dipped into the other 6 fungicides for 24 h.
