DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Short-term toxicity of nitrofurazone (I) [59-87-0], furaltadone tartrate (II tartrate) [71662-11-8], and furaltadone HCl (II HCl) [3759-92-0] was tested in the lab. on freshwater organisms, algae, and crustaceans. Toxicity studies with I were also carried out on larval development of the housefly. I was invariably the most toxic compd. (the 96-h EC50 of algal species was 1.45 mg/L; the EC50 values for D. 3759-92-0 and 59-87-0 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. magna were 40.04 and 28.67 mg/L after 24 and 48 h, resp. followed by II tartrate and II HCl. In view of the evidence of the potential ecotoxicity of nitrofurans, there is a need for further investigations. .
