The aminoethylenes contg. a 2-Et carboxylate substituent were cyclized in Downtherm A to give the corresponding 3-substituted 4-hydroxy-8-N-phenylpyrrolo[3,4-h]quinoline-7,9-diones and 3-substituted 4-hydroxy-7-N-phenylpyrrolo[3,4-g]quinoline-6,8-diones, resp. I and II were also condensed with Et orthoformate [122-51-0] and compds. contg. an active methylene or active Me group such as phenylacetonitrile [140-29-4], 2-methylbenzimidazole [615-15-6], and benzimidazol-2-ylacetonitrile [4414-88-4] to give different aminoethylene derivs. The fluorescent properties of all these products were studied and some of these compds. were applied to polyester fibers as fluorescent dyes. .
