DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The effect of P-contg. heat stabilizer-antioxidants P-1 [3806-34-6] and P-2 [3076-63-9] on the mol. wt. and properties of 4,4'-oxydianiline-pyromellitic dianhydride copolymer (I) [25038-81-7] was studied. The mol. wt. of polyimide increased to 122 ′ 105 with increasing P-1 content of the I polyamic acid to 0.5% and decreased to 33 ′ 103 with increasing P-2 content to 5%. The tensile strength and elongation of I decreased by addn. of P-1 or P-2. The viscosity of the original and stabilized polyamic acid in concd. DMF solns. decreased monotonically with increasing storage time. A correlation was established between the degrdn. resistance of polyamic acids in the presence of P-1 or P-2 and thermal stability of polyimide films prepd. from them.
