Toxicol., 15(1), 49-54 (English) 1977. CODEN: FCTXAV. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Section cross-reference(s): 4 35S-labeled Na pyrithione (I) [3811-73-2] and Zn pyrithione (II) [13463-41-7] were administered to rats, rabbits and monkeys, either orally or i.p. Rats with cannulated bile or thoracic ducts were used in some expts. Excreta and carcasses were anal. for radioactivity to det. the metabolic fate of the pyrithione moiety. Both I and II were absorbed into the circulation to the extent of 80-90%. The 35S was excreted rapidly in the urine (20-50% in 6 h, 70-85% in 48 h)., but a moderate amt. (.apprx.15%) was excreted in the bile. Small amts. (2-9%) of the 35S remained widely distributed in the body 72 h after administration.

(United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: C07D213-89. NCL: 546006000. APPLICATION: US 82-352813 26 Feb 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) The discoloration of Na pyrithione [3811-73-2] and Zn pyrithione [13463-41-7], used as antimicrobial and antidandruff agents, resp., is prevented by treating with a sulfite, bisulfite, or N2H4 reducing agent. A 13% aq. soln., 309.2 g, of Na pyrithione contg. surfactant was mixed with 3.6 g Na2SO3, heated to 95° over 20 min, and 927 g 9.7% aq. ZnSO4 soln. was added to form a Zn pyrithione ppt. The whiteness of the filter cake was calcd. to be 56.5 based on Hunter color values as compared with 21.8 for filter cake prepd. similarly but without the Na2SO3.
