DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) Section cross-reference(s): 11 Several biol. active substances, such as aloenin (I) [38412-46-3], Mg lactate [18917-93-6], aloe-emodin (II) [481-72-1], barbaloin (III) [1415-73-2], and succinic acid [110-15-6], were found in the leaf juice of A. arborescens which has been widely used in domestic medicines. I and Mg lactate inhibited gastric juice secretion in rats. Various constituents other than the above bioactive substances were also found in the leaves and roots of the plant.

Chromatograms of Aloe arborescens ext. had 2 spots (Rf 0.42 and 0.49), corresponding to aloenin [38412-46-3] and barbaloin [1415-73-2], resp. Chromatograms of Aloe pulverata had 3 spots (Rf 0.29, 0.49, and 0.52). From the pattern of TLC-densitometry of each sample of the candies the aloe material was either A. arborescens or A. pulverata.Except for chemicals metioned above, 38412-46-3 and 1415-73-2 are also used. .
