H2O or 10% aq. EtOH soln. at room temp. All the stabilizers diffuse into Et2O. The stabilizers can be identified by thin layer chromatog. on silica gel with 4:1 cyclohexane-EtOAc as the eluent and 5% aq. FeCl3 soln. as the developer. The Rf of I, II, and IV are very similar, but they can be further identified by polarog. The diffusion rate of III into Et2O is slower than that of the other 3 stabilizers; thus III is the preferred stabilizer for polythylene films used in food packaging.
