DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Section cross-reference(s): 14 The local anesthetics procaine-HCl [51-05-8], procainamide-HCl (I) [614-39-1], chloroprocaine-HCl [3858-89-7], amethocaine-HCl [136-47-0], and dibucaine-HCl [61-12-1] in aq. phase beneath a monolayer of dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline (DPPC) in a Langmuir surface balance, caused a decrease in the measurable surface pressure of the DPPC monolayer. Apparently, this disruption of the monolayer as a result of drug interaction is due to the removal of the phospholipid from the monolayer. Chronic phospholipid loss would lead to cell lysis and antinuclear antibody formation which is indicative of systemic lupus erythematosus.
