Cucurbitacins in relation to somatic embryony in vitro
Cucurbitacins in relation to somatic embryony in vitro. Tewari, Akhilesh; Rangaswamy, N. S. (Dep. Bot., Univ. Delhi, Delhi 110 007, India).Some commonly used reagents like 3877-86-9 and 18444-66-1 are used in this experiment. Proc. - Indian Acad. Sci., Plant Sci., 92(5), 403-19 (English) 1983. CODEN: PIPLDS. ISSN: 0253-410X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Effects of 4 cucurbitacins, which occur mostly in seeds of Cucurbitaceae, and of cucurbitaceous tissue exts. on somatic embryony in tissue cultures of carrot, Citrus microcarpa, and Ranunculus sceleratus are described. TLC analyses showed that the nucellar ext. and the integuments of Luffa cylindrica contain cucurbitacin B. Studies with the exts. on all the 3 tissue culture systems have corroborated the obsd. inhibitory effect of cucurbitacins on somatic embryony. The role of cucurbitacins in plant embryogeny, and in the control of zygotic or adventive embryony in crop species is discussed. .
