DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 39 (Synthetic Elastomers and Natural Rubber) Di-Me, Me hydrogen and di-Me, Me hydrogen, Me vinyl silicone rubbers (GSE-1 and -2, resp.) were vulcanized with or without vinyl group-contg. cyclosiloxanes, 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-trivinylcyclotrisilazane [5505-72-6], or linear siloxanes as vulcanizing agents in the presence of Pt bis(benzyltrioctylammonium) tetranitrite (I) [96109-38-5] at elevated temps. in air or under pressure. The crosslink d. increased with increasing concn. of I, cure temp., and time with or without vulcanizing agents; was higher in air than under pressure; and depended on Si substituents of vulcanizing agents, decreasing in the order: di-Me, Me vinyl siloxane > Me Ph, Me vinyl siloxane > di-Ph, Me vinyl siloxane. The crosslink d. of GSE-2 was substantially higher than that of GSE-1 under the same conditions. The highest rate of crosslinking was achieved with cyclosiloxane vulcanizing agents, such as 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-trivinylcyclotrisiloxane [3901-77-7]. The degree of vulcanization in air increased on filling with colloidal SiO2 (Aerosil A-300) and was optimum with respect to physicomech. properties of vulcanizates when carried out at 200° for 60 and 120 min for GSE-1 and GSE-2, resp. The vulcanization in air proceeded via both hydrosilylation and oxidn. of HSi groups, followed by dehydrocondensation of SiOH groups.
