DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference; General Review CA Section: 56 (Nonferrous Metals and Alloys) A review. There are some commonly used reagents like 39336-13-5 in this article. This paper describes recent progress in the development of Nb-silicide-based in-situ composites. These composites are being developed for structural applications with service temps. of up to 1350°. From a com. perspective, investment casting of near netshape components of Nb-silicide composites offers substantial potential because of its proximity to existing airfoil manufg. practices. However, investment casting techniques are not yet well developed for Nb-silicide composite airfoils. Furthermore, there is only a limited understanding of the relation between compn., processing techniques and the properties of Nb-silicide composites. Alloying schemes were developed to achieve an excellent balance of room temp. toughness, fatigue crack growth behavior, high temp. creep performance, and oxidn. resistance over a broad range of temps. This paper describes Nb-silicide-based composites with particular emphasis on processing, microstructure, and performance. .
