DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Mice and guinea pigs were sensitized with an i.p. injection of ovalbumin and the effects of Au Na thiomalate [39377-38-3] and auranofin [34031-32-8] on IgE antibody prodn. and the endocrine response were examd. IgE antibody prodn. was not suppressed when the Au compds. were administered before the sensitization but it was suppressed when the Au compds. were administered once a week for 3 to 5 wk prior to the sensitization. In spleen cells obtained from mice having 1 shot of Au compd. 39377-38-3 and 7440-57-5 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. 2 wk prior to the collection of the specimen, the IgE antibody response was not suppressed. The serum corticosterone [50-22-6] level was increased in mice shortly after administration of the Au compds. In the exptl. model of asthma produced by inhalation of crystn. bacterial-a-amylase obtained from Bacillus subtilis, severe attacks and IgE antibody prodn. were suppressed by treatment with the Au compds. .
