DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Weddell seal samples taken from the Antarctic were contaminated with chlordane compds. cis-Chlordane [5103-71-9], cis-nonachlor [5103-73-1], trans-nonachlor [39765-80-5], and oxychlordane (I) [27304-13-8] were present in blubber of seals at the range of 12 - 62 ng/g . The order of chlordane compd. concns. was trans-nonachlor > I > cis-nonachlor > cis-chlordane. Relative abundance of cis-chlordane in chlordanes is higher than that in humans. A probable explanation for their occurrence in the Antarctic is an airborne transport.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Ultra-trace levels of org. pollutants can be detd. in human tissue and blood samples by a combined gas chromatog.-mass spectrometer-computer data system. Trans-nonachlor [39765-80-5], a minor constituent of technical chlordane (I) [12789-03-6] and technical heptachlor [76-44-8], was found along with the metabolites oxychlordane [26880-48-8] and heptachlor expoxide [1024-57-3] in the tissues of persons representative of the av. resident of the United States. Several other isomers of nonachlor were also found in the human tissues. The fact that these compds. are reposited intact in human fat suggests that they are more resistant to metab. than the major components, I and heptachlor, which are absent. The widespread occurrence of I- and heptachlor-related compds. 76-44-8 and 84-74-2 are just another two chemicals used in this study. in the tissues of nonoccupationally exposed persons indicates extensive environmental contamination by these pesticides. .
