- Brominated epoxy resins
- Brominated epoxy resins. (Yuka Shell Epoxy K. K., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59033317 A2 23 Feb 1984 Showa, 8 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08G059-06; H01B003-40. APPLICATION: JP 82-142984 18 Aug 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Brominated epoxy resins contg. little hydrolyzable halogen (which delay curing and impairs elec. properties and hot water resistance) are prepd. from 1 equiv. brominated polyphenols and 0.6-1.5 equiv. epihalohydrin in aq. solns. of 0.01-0.08 mol alkali metal hydroxide and 5-200% (based on bromophenol) org. solvents (preferably forming azeotropes with water) and dehydrohalogenating with more alkali. Thus, tetrabromobisphenol A 1000, epichlorolydrin 340, iso-BuCOMe 340, and 50% NaOH 66 parts were refluxed 30 min, mixed with 270 g 50% NaOH and 2160 g iso-BuCOMe, and heated with distn. of H2O. This gave 1190 g resin [40039-93-8] with epoxy equiv. wt. 380, hydrolyzable Cl 0.03%, and phenolic OH groups <0.001 mequiv./g, compared with 365, 1.0, and 0.005, resp., when prepd. without ketone in the initial mixt.
- Processable and compression-moldable prepregs
- Processable and compression-moldable prepregs. (Dainippon Ink and Chemicals, Inc., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59049240 A2 21 Mar 1984 Showa, 9 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08J005-24; C08G059-18. APPLICATION: JP 82-159498 16 Sep 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Section cross-reference(s): 38 The prepregs contain fibrous reinforcement and a mixt. of 5-95 parts epoxy resin(s) (epoxy equiv 100-400) with a polybasic acid anhydride and crosslinking catalyst and 5-95 parts epoxy vinyl ester resin and(or) unsatd. polyester. The prepregs give moldings with good strength and resistance to heat and fire. Thus, bisphenol A-epichlorohydrin copolymer [25068-38-6] (epoxy equiv 190) 16.9, epichlorohydrin-tetrabromobisphenol A copolymer (I) [40039-93-8] (epoxy equiv 370) 26.5, methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride [26590-20-5] 26.6, PhCH2NMe2 [103-83-3] 0.7, I methacrylate-styrene copolymer [91630-13-6] 30, and Perhexa 3M 0.6 part were mixed to give an impregnating compn. (viscosity 650 cP, Br content 20%) (A). A A-glass cloth prepreg was kept 30 h at 40° and then 9 sheets of the tack-free prepreg were laminated with Cu foil for 30 min at 160° and 40 kg/cm2.
