- Carbon-13 NMR study of cysteine-formaldehyde-amino acid reticulation reactions. Naulet, N.; Tome, D. (Lab. Chim. Org. Phys., Univ. Nantes, Nantes 44072, Fr.). J. Chim. Phys. Phys.-Chim. Biol., 81(3), 173-7 (French) 1984. CODEN: JCPBAN. ISSN: 0021-7689. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 45 (Industrial Organic Chemicals, Leather, Fats, and Waxes) Section cross-reference(s): 34 The reactions between HCHO [50-00-0], N-acetylcysteine [616-91-1], and N2-acetyllysine [1946-82-3], N2-acetylarginine [155-84-0], N2-acetylasparagine [4033-40-3], or N2-acetylglutamine [2490-97-3] are studied by 13C NMR. The reticulation products are labile and exist only in equil. with starting materials, but NMR allows the structural detn. of each product. The compns. of the mixts. are detd. as functions of time and pH. The results suggest that lysine is the most important amino acid involved in these reactions. Reticulation products involving lysine formed first and most abundantly, indicating that reactions between lysine and cysteine in the presence of HCHO may be important in tanning processes.
