DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 7 (Enzymes) A no. of hydroxycinnamic acids, their esters, and the corresponding cinnamyl alcs.Several substances with their cas registry numbers 97-53-0 and 4046-02-0 may be metioned in this study. were tested for their usefulness as substrates for the sensitive detection of peroxidase isoenzymes in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Ferulic acid Et ester was the most active of the substrates investigated with peroxidase isoenzymes from woody tissues of trees in terms of the no. of zones revealed, the intensity of the zones, and the rate at which pptg. oxidn. products are produced, and it reacted the most sensitively with peroxidases. As a substrate for revealing zones of peroxidase activity, it had the advantage of allowing highly sensitive detection of enzymic activity, producing nondiffusing, stable, white pptn. zones. It was easily prepd. by esterification of ferulic acid with EtOH, and it was not toxic. .
