Mode of action of herbicides of the phenoxypropionic acid derivative type
Mode of action of herbicides of the phenoxypropionic acid derivative type. Koecher, H.; Loetzsch, K. (Pflanzenschutzforsch.-Biol., Hoechst A.-G., Frankfurt/Main, Ger.). Symp. Status, Biol. Control Grassweeds Eur., [Proc.], Meeting Date 1975, Volume 1, 430-7. EWRS: Wageningen, Neth. (German) 1976. CODEN: 36RKAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) When applied foliarly to corn (Zea mays) (sensitive species), HOE 22870 [51337-71-4] and HOE 23408 [51338-27-3], as well as the corresponding free acids HOE 19453 [26129-32-8] and HOE 21079 [40843-25-2], showed high degree of penetration into the interior of the leaf. Poor foliar penetration was shown, however, by the tolerant species sugar beet (Beta vulgaris). Both species showed high radicular uptake and poor translocation from the root to the shoot. Root growth inhibition by the herbicides was higher in oat (Avena fatua) than in wheat. HOE 22870 and HOE 23408 decreased the chlorophyll content and respiration, and increased the sol. sugar, RNA, starch [9005-25-8] and protein content, in corn.
Physiological effects of methyl 2-[4(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenoxy]propanoate on oat, wild oat, and wheat
Physiological effects of methyl 2-[4(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenoxy]propanoate on oat, wild oat, and wheat. Shimabukuro, Mary A.; Shimabukuro, Richard H.; Nord, William S.; Hoerauf, Roland A. (Dep. Biol., Moorhead State Univ., Moorhead, Minn., USA). Pestic. Biochem. Physiol., 8(2), 199-207 (English) 1978. CODEN: PCBPBS. ISSN: 0048-3575. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Dichlofop-methyl [51338-27-3], a selective herbicide for wild oat (Avena fatua) control in wheat (Triticum aestivum), inhibited IAA [87-51-4]-stimulated elongation of oat and wheat coleoptile segments by 51 and 13%, resp., at 10 mM concns. Dichlofop-Me alone had no auxin activity at concns. of 0.1, 1.0, and 10 mM. The inhibitory effect of dichlofop-Me was overcome partially by increasing the IAA concn. or by application of dicamba [1918-00-9], a herbicide with weak auxin activity. The de-esterified free acid metabolite, dichlofop [40843-25-2], at 10 mM inhibited auxin-stimulated oat coleoptile elongation by 23%, but it did not affect wheat coleoptile elongation at the same concn. Both dichlofop-Me and dichlofop inhibited root growth in excised shoots and seedlings of wild oat but had no effect on wheat. Dichlofop was a more effective inhibitor of root growth than dichlofop-Me. The results suggest that dichlofop-Me functions as a strong auxin antagonist. The herbicidal effect of dichlofop-Me may be the net effect of 2 biol. active forms of the compd. each with a different mode of action acting at different sites within a susceptible plant.
